For the past four days I've had the most heinous case of chapped lips of my entire life.
bathtub-scum green Burt's Bees Res-q insect bite ointment that makes my lips all nummie on top of the normal haggard feeling.
I found out that Tobacco is going to be at Bonnaroo. Oh yeah, I'm going to Bonnaroo. Volunteering is getting me in for free, btw... I don't have $300 to see phish. twice!!! Headie tunes bro. Ugh.
Kristen and I bottled our pumpkin spice mead a few nights ago. It tastes much better than the last batch but still needs several months before it will be really delicious.
Its kind of sad that an email from our friendly local army recruiter that I read with a barking drill Sargent voice inside my head looks as appealing as an all expenses paid culinary tour of Taiwan. Enlistment bonus of $20,000! More than $23,000 in educational benefits! Up to $20,000 to pay off your student loans! I keep telling myself that $15,657 is not that much debt. But then I keep remembering the little number down at the bottom "accrued interest: $900." I'm on a 10 year plan paying $185 per month. All in all I will have paid $22,200 for a piece of paper and the best years of my life. Still trying to tell myself that's not a lot of money...
I want to work on a farm making $100 a month. I want to start a band that lives in a biodesiel van with solar panels to power our instruments, living out of dumpsters and performing improvised shows in vacant, baking parking lots. I want to walk to china, live in the street and learn to play the shamisen.
I don't what to think about how I'm actually going to live a vaguely ecologically upgraded consumption based existence no matter how I resist. So why resist? |

Have you ever gotten news that was at once the best and worst you have ever heard?
So I forked out $200 for this EZ-EG midi "guitar" controller that I only recently got around to setting up on Christan's computer (the midi interface is incompatible with my Mac). I'm still jumping through hoops because the EZ-EG wasn't intended to be a midi controller, it just happens to have that capability.

Doesn't everyone understand why Obama was nominated? The corporations that are financing his campaign chose him because of how easily he can be manipulated. McCain was so unpopular at first because his history made him appear to be an unlikely candidate for a corporate bukakee, but guess what, he's doing it NOW, hurray.
They win either way.
Obama supporters are not using their brain. Our government is one big fucking nascar race, every corporation has their little stock car racer with a big smile and a colorful patchwork of logos driving around the same track, all headed in the same direction. Growth, growth, growth. We need a revolution but will never start one. |

I ran across my first routing problem in Reason today.
You see, a rack in Reason has two panels, a front and a back...
(the picture on the left is the front side, the one on the right is the back)
If you will notice, there are LOTS of pretty colored cables connecting LOTS of little holes with fancy names like "Pitch CV In", "Filter 1 Cutoff", "LFO 1", and my favorite "Damage Control!" Well, you can use ALL the cables you want to connect all the little holes in every way you can imagine. CPUs the limit!
Well, I was making this song and I had my ReDrum drum machine playing a voice sample through a Scream 4 Sound Destruction Unit to make it all fuzzy. The problem was that I wanted to add a bass drum sound to give my funky Dr: Rex drum loop a boost, but it was being made all fuzzy by the Scream 4 Destruction Unit! You can see my dilemma, should I create another ReDrum unit or play with some cables in the back... Long story short, I hot wired my Scream 4 Destruction Unit so that it no longer received the Stereo Out from the ReDrum (which I sent to the mixer instead) and created a path from the Audio Output of Channel 1 (the channel with the voice sample) into the Scream 4 and then to the mixer. Vuala! No fuzz on my bass drum!
Sound complicated?
NOT EVEN FUCKING CLOSE!
Its probably the equivalent of learning to move left in Pokemon. Reason is the best video game ever made. Ever. No samples yet, but expect something soon. |

I hadn't heard this in like a year. CRIME!
It turns out my sustainable building construction and design teacher decided to be generous and give us the 5 page version of our exam instead of the 10 AND the LEED questions were take straight from the study guide, so I should be good.
Since I only really spend money on alcohol, if I really get on the ball making a shit ton of hobo wine, I can probably make it through the summer with the $500 left in my bank account. Maybe I'll paint houses with Derek and Brandon, but otherwise...
I started playing along to Tiny Dancer on the grand piano at work but I got distracted figuring out how to play another song (I'll give you a hint: D A G D A G D C G F G D) and this guy came up to me and asked if I needed help finding the key. I quickly switched back to tiny dancer to assure him, then we stated talking. He asked what my major was and I told him "wish it was Recording Industries..." which just so happened to be his major. I feel like I meet another RI major everyday and it never fails to permeate my body with jealousy and regret. He gave me the name of a professor that will let anyone sit in on his classes, but I just don't know if that would be a good idea. Next semester is basically going to be me performing penance for jerking my gherkin the last three years instead of getting my shit together and doing what I WANT to do. I'm scared I would pull a Nick Drake and drop out with only a few months left to go before I graduate...but I won't...
I mean, the only person I know of with an undergraduate degree in Anthropology is the sound guy for Jimmy Kemmil, so fuck it... |

hey
I've thought about posting numerous times since I happened to last, but my moments of inspiration come at the most inopportune moments. Out in the woods dreaming of a commune, chatting with my little sister about sex and school and the future, staring forlornly at my dead computer waiting for a replacement power chord from some guy in China that may or may not be coming, but never when I actually have the time to open one of these boxes to try and force some words of interest out of a few keystrokes.
So I know that considering our current situation the only respectable occupations are astrophysicist and farmer, but I am a musician. I've neglected myself for far too long. A few days ago I recorded myself singing some Beatles and Elliott Smith songs and I had no idea my voice had gotten THAT bad. Though I'm beginning to find inspiration in my awful intonation and misplaced notes. |
